On most studies the first three weeks go to assembly: finding the peer set, cleaning the filings, rebuilding the model that was rebuilt last time, pulling the census tables again. We build that layer once, against your method, and hand it over for your firm to use on its own engagements.

On a fixed-fee study the assembly comes out of margin; on an hourly one it comes out of how many studies a team can run in a year. Either way it is the same work done again on every engagement.
